Party president accepts verdict, says BJP will reconnect with people and strengthen public confidence after defeats in Bankipur and Datia

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday August 4, 2026 has announced a comprehensive review of its performance in the recent Assembly by-elections after suffering setbacks in Bihar’s Bankipur constituency and Madhya Pradesh’s Datia seat, while managing to retain Gujarat’s Manjalpur Assembly constituency.

Reacting to the results, BJP National President Nitin Nabin said the party respects the democratic verdict and will closely examine the reasons behind the defeats to improve its organisational and electoral strategy.

The Bankipur by-election in Bihar drew particular attention after Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor secured victory in a constituency that had long been considered a BJP stronghold. The seat fell vacant after Nitin Nabin resigned as MLA following his elevation to the party’s national leadership.

In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP also lost the Datia Assembly seat, making the bypoll outcome a mixed one for the ruling party.

However, the BJP retained its foothold in Gujarat by winning the Manjalpur Assembly constituency in Vadodara district. Party candidate Satish Govindbhai Patel defeated Congress nominee and former minister Bhikhabhai Rabari by a comfortable margin, preventing a complete setback in the three-state electoral contest.

In a message posted after the results, Nitin Nabin thanked voters for participating in the democratic process and reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to public service.

He said the party would undertake a detailed assessment of the results in both Bankipur and Datia and continue engaging with people to strengthen their confidence in the BJP’s policies and leadership.

The BJP chief also congratulated party workers and office-bearers for the victory in Gujarat, describing the Manjalpur result as a reflection of continued public support for the party in the state.

Political observers believe the bypoll outcomes may prompt the BJP to reassess its local campaign strategies and organisational outreach, particularly in constituencies where changing political dynamics have begun to reshape the electoral landscape.
