Raipur : The ‘Chinhari’ scheme, administered by the Department of Culture of the Government of Chhattisgarh, is emerging as a powerful medium for providing a new identity to the state’s rich folk culture, traditions, and folk artists.

Through this initiative, not only are traditional art forms being preserved, but the artists themselves are also being empowered—both economically and socially.

Under the Chinhari scheme, folk artists, artisans, singers, and dancers across various districts of the state are being identified and registered. This process is creating a comprehensive cultural database that is expected to prove instrumental in the future preservation and promotion of the arts.

Artists selected under the scheme receive financial assistance and are also provided with opportunities to showcase their talents on state, national, and international platforms. Furthermore, the participation of these artists is ensured at fairs, festivals, and government events, thereby garnering them widespread recognition.

Chhattisgarh’s folk culture is being empowered through the ‘Chinhari Scheme.’ Organising training camps to connect the new generation with their folk heritage constitutes a vital component of this initiative.

By fostering the ‘Guru-Shishya’ (mentor-disciple) tradition, young people are receiving training in traditional arts under the guidance of experienced artists.

Another significant aspect of the Chinhari Scheme is the preservation and revitalisation of vanishing folk traditions.

Under this framework, folk dances, folk songs, and traditional crafts are being preserved and infused with renewed vitality. Furthermore, these art forms are also being promoted and disseminated through digital platforms.
