Mining Department intensifies action against illegal extraction, transportation and storage in Balrampur district
Raipur: The Chhattisgarh Mining Department has stepped up its drive against illegal mining activities, seizing a sand-laden tipper and approximately 90 cubic metres of illegally stored sand during enforcement operations in Balrampur district on Wednesday July 1, 2026 .
The action was carried out in the Rajpur area as part of the state’s ongoing campaign to curb the illegal extraction, transportation and storage of minerals.
According to officials, a tipper transporting sand without valid authorisation was intercepted and seized at Narsinghpur village. The vehicle has been placed under the custody of Rajpur Police Station pending further legal proceedings.
In a separate operation at Basantpur village, officials inspected a fly ash brick manufacturing unit and found around 30 tractor-loads of illegally stored sand, estimated at nearly 90 cubic metres. The stockpile was immediately seized, and a notice was issued to the unit’s operator seeking an explanation under the relevant provisions of the state’s mining regulations.
Officials from the Mining Department said that strict action is being taken against individuals and businesses involved in illegal mineral extraction, transportation and storage in accordance with the Chhattisgarh Minor Mineral Rules and other applicable laws.
The department reiterated that enforcement drives will continue across the state to safeguard natural resources, prevent revenue losses and ensure lawful mining practices.
The state government has intensified inspections in recent months as part of its broader strategy to curb illegal mining activities and promote transparent and sustainable management of mineral resources.
