Raipur: In a significant example of balancing development with social responsibility, the Chhattisgarh government has initiated the rehabilitation of families affected by the removal of encroachments from government land in Nakti village, near Nava Raipur, before carrying out the eviction drive.

Instead of displacing residents without support, the state government has begun relocating 65 eligible families to fully developed Economically Weaker Section (EWS) housing in Sector-30, Atal Nagar (Nava Raipur). The rehabilitation initiative aims to provide not just permanent homes but also a dignified living environment equipped with essential urban infrastructure.

The newly allotted homes are connected to electricity, drinking water, sewerage, paved roads, community facilities, parks, and other civic amenities. To ensure the houses are immediately habitable, the government has completed electrical fittings, including tube lights, ceiling fans, and power connections.

The rehabilitation process has been designed to be transparent and orderly. An eight-member committee, headed by the Additional Commissioner at the headquarters level, has been constituted to oversee the entire exercise. The committee includes senior officials such as the Deputy Commissioner, Executive Engineer, Estate Officer, and Assistant Engineers, who will ensure that every eligible family receives its allotted accommodation without any irregularities.

The land in Nakti village, under the jurisdiction of the Chhattisgarh Housing and Infrastructure Development Board, spans nearly 38 acres. Of this, about 12 acres will be utilized for a special development project, while the remaining 26 acres will be developed under the Board’s self-financed general housing scheme.

Based on a list submitted by the district administration, temporary allotment orders for the 65 eligible families were issued on June 29, 2026, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). The beneficiaries have been allotted vacant EWS apartments in Sector-30.

Sector-30 comprises 1,376 G+3 EWS apartments, of which 109 vacant units on the fourth floor have been earmarked for rehabilitation. Each apartment measures 31.45 square metres (338.40 sq ft) and is located within a well-planned residential complex featuring concrete internal roads, walking tracks, landscaped parks, a community hall, utility shopping complex, an underground sewer network, and regular water supply.

Officials of the Chhattisgarh Housing and Infrastructure Development Board said the government’s priority is not merely to reclaim encroached public land but to ensure that affected families are rehabilitated with dignity and provided with a stable and improved living environment. Every stage of the rehabilitation process—from allotment to the provision of essential amenities—is being closely monitored to ensure fairness and efficiency.
