Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai inaugurates the modern wholesale trading hub, announces a 15-foot statue of the Iron Man and says the project will drive trade, investment and employment in Chhattisgarh

Raipur: In a major push to strengthen Chhattisgarh’s commercial infrastructure, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Wednesday July 8, 2026 inaugurated the newly developed Dumartarai Wholesale Market Phase-II in Raipur and announced that the modern trading complex will be named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s “Iron Man.” A 15-foot statue of the national leader will also be installed within the campus as a tribute to his role in unifying the country.

Addressing traders, public representatives and officials, the Chief Minister said naming the complex after Sardar Patel reflects the state’s respect for his unmatched contribution to nation-building and national integration.

Describing the project as a milestone for the state’s economy, Sai said the Dumartarai Wholesale Market would emerge as a new growth engine for trade and employment, creating fresh business opportunities while strengthening Chhattisgarh’s commercial ecosystem.

Spread across nearly 36 acres along National Highway-30, the state-of-the-art wholesale market has been developed by the Chhattisgarh Housing Board and Infrastructure Development Board with wide internal roads, organised traffic circulation, ample parking space and modern commercial facilities designed to meet the long-standing demands of traders.

The Chief Minister said the government is committed to promoting both Ease of Doing Business and Ease of Living, adding that investments in modern infrastructure are essential for attracting industries, expanding commerce and generating employment.

Housing and Environment Minister O.P. Choudhary said the project fulfils a vision first conceived in 2010 and will not only provide better facilities to traders but also ease traffic congestion in Raipur by shifting wholesale commercial activities to a planned location.

Housing Board Chairman Anurag Singh Deo described the project as a symbol of quality infrastructure, innovation and public service, adding that it would significantly contribute to trade, investment and economic development across the state.

The wholesale market has been developed in two phases. Phase-I, completed at a cost of around ₹76 crore, comprises 536 commercial shops and halls, while Phase-II, built at an estimated ₹145 crore, includes 154 independent commercial shops. Together, the project offers Chhattisgarh one of its most modern and well-planned wholesale trading hubs.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Skill Development, Technical Education and Employment Minister Guru Khushwant Saheb, Rajya Sabha MP Laxmi Verma, MLAs Motilal Sahu and Purandar Mishra, along with representatives of various trade organisations and hundreds of traders.
