Giorgia Meloni Congratulates PM Modi Amidst Celebrations Marking 12 Years in Office

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on setting the record for the longest continuous tenure as Prime Minister of India.

Congratulatory messages are pouring in from across the globe following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s achievement of setting a new record for the longest continuous tenure as Prime Minister. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also extended her best wishes to PM Modi. Meloni remarked that Narendra Modi becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India’s history is a significant achievement. Referencing their recent meeting in Rome, she also spoke about advancing relations between India and Italy. This message comes at a time when there is also considerable discussion regarding PM Modi completing 12 years in the central government.

On Wednesday June 10, 2026 , Prime Minister Narendra Modi set a major record in Indian politics. Having first taken the oath of office on May 26, 2014, Modi has now completed 4,399 consecutive days in office. With this, he has become the longest-serving Prime Minister of India in a continuous term since the Constitution came into effect.

He surpassed the record held by the country’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who served as an elected Prime Minister for 4,398 consecutive days following the first general election in 1952.

Giorgia Meloni Pens a Special Message

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni congratulated PM Modi by tagging him on social media. She wrote, extending her best wishes to Narendra Modi for becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India’s history. Meloni also recalled their bilateral meeting held in Rome a few weeks ago, an event she appeared very pleased about. Furthermore, her message highlighted the strengthening ties between the two nations. She noted that the two countries have launched a special strategic partnership—one designed with the future in mind—which will create excellent new opportunities for progress for the citizens of both nations.

Many prominent leaders from India and around the world have also extended their best wishes to PM Modi on this special occasion. Leaders have hailed this as a major achievement, reflecting the public’s trust and a long political journey. Reacting to this milestone, Prime Minister Modi stated that service to the people is the hallmark of good governance. He remarked that it is the individual who works consistently with humility, dedication, and a sense of duty who truly wins the people’s trust.
