Goodbye Manmohan Singh… Daughter performed the last rites, Rahul Gandhi shouldered the mortal remains of the former PM

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh merged with the five elements today. He was cremated with full state honors at Nigam Bodh Ghat in Delhi. Top leaders of various parties gathered to pay tribute to the architect of India’s economic liberalization. President Draupadi Murmu, PM Modi, Amit Shah, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and many other political heavyweights bid a tearful farewell to the former PM. During this, foreign dignitaries like Bhutan’s King Jigme Wangchuk and Mauritius’ Foreign Minister were also present.

Manmohan Singh’s last journey began from the Congress headquarters, where party leaders gathered to pay tribute. The mortal remains of two-time Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were carried in a flower-decorated vehicle and supporters raised slogans of ‘Manmohan Singh Amar Rahe’.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s wife Gursharan Kaur and daughter Daman Singh paid their last respects to him at the AICC headquarters. Manmohan Singh’s elder daughter Upinder Singh, second daughter Daman Singh and third daughter Amrit Singh were present at Nigambodh Ghat, the daughter lit the funeral pyre of her father. Let us tell you that Manmohan Singh died on Thursday night, he was 92 years old. After fainting at home, he was taken to Delhi AIIMS at 8:06 pm. He breathed his last at 9:51 pm. (Photo- PTI)

Manmohan Singh’s body was taken to Nigambodh Ghat for cremation. Hundreds of Congress workers, leaders and supporters were walking during this time. Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was with Singh’s family on the way. Manmohan Singh’s body was brought from his residence to the Congress headquarters at 9:30 am. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his last respects to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Nigambodh Ghat. The central government has declared a seven-day national mourning till January 1, during which the national flag will fly at half-mast across the country. The national flag will also fly at half-mast in all Indian missions and high commissions. A half-day holiday was also declared in all central government offices and central public sector undertakings on Saturday. Apart from the central government, many states including Haryana, Punjab, Manipur, Rajasthan, Bihar and Assam have announced official mourning in honor of the former Prime Minister. (Photo- PTI)

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was given a gun salute at Nigambodh Ghat. Meanwhile, after a war of words broke out between the BJP and the Congress, the Center agreed to allocate a place for the memorial of the former Prime Minister. Party chief Mallikarjun Kharge had written a letter to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister requesting that Manmohan Singh’s last rites be performed at a place where his memorial can be built.
