Raipur: Joining the nationwide movement launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chhattisgarh on Sunday formally kicked off the ‘Drug-Free Youth for Developed India Pledge Campaign’ (Nasha Mukt Yuva Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan) at Lok Bhavan, Raipur, with Governor Ramen Deka and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai leading the State-level programme.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, youth organisations, educational institutions, NSS, NCC volunteers and civil society representatives, all of whom pledged to work towards building a drug-free society.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the nationwide campaign through video conferencing from New Delhi, calling upon young Indians to become ambassadors of a healthier and addiction-free nation.

“Drug addiction destroys not only an individual but also families and society. A developed India requires healthy, confident and responsible youth who remain free from addiction,” the Prime Minister said during his virtual address.

Governor and Chief Minister Lead Statewide Pledge

Governor Ramen Deka and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai joined hundreds of young participants in administering the anti-drug pledge, reaffirming the State’s commitment to the national campaign.

The programme also highlighted the physical, mental, social and economic consequences of substance abuse while encouraging young people to adopt a healthy lifestyle and contribute positively to nation-building.

“Youth are the strongest pillar of a developed India. Creating awareness against drug abuse is not only a government responsibility but also a social movement that requires collective participation,” the message echoed throughout the programme.

100-Week Public Awareness Campaign

Officials said the campaign, launched on August 2, 2026, will continue for 100 weeks across the country.

Schools, colleges, universities, MY Bharat, National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC) and various youth organisations will organise sustained awareness programmes to educate young people about the dangers of drug abuse.

The initiative aims to transform the anti-drug mission into a mass public movement through active community participation.

Wide Range of Activities Planned

As part of the campaign, educational institutions and youth organisations will conduct:

• Anti-drug pledge ceremonies
• Awareness rallies
• Poster and painting competitions
• Essay and debate contests
• Street plays and cultural performances
• Short film screenings
• Social media awareness campaigns
• Community interaction programmes

The campaign seeks to inspire young citizens to embrace healthy lifestyles while strengthening their role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Officials said the coordinated efforts of the Central and State Governments will ensure that the campaign reaches every section of society and evolves into a nationwide public movement against substance abuse.

The programme was attended by MLA Purandar Mishra, Governor’s Secretary Dr. C.R. Prasanna, Legal Advisor Satyabhama Ajay Dubey, Raipur Collector Dr. Gaurav Kumar Singh, senior government officials, representatives of educational institutions and a large gathering of students and youth volunteers.
