New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday August 2, 2026 launched the ‘Drug-Free Youth for Developed India Pledge Campaign’ (Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan), calling upon the country’s youth to become the driving force behind a nationwide movement against substance abuse.

Launching the campaign through video conferencing, the Prime Minister addressed more than one crore young participants connected from over 28,000 locations across the country and described the initiative as a people’s movement aimed at safeguarding India’s future.

“I salute the more than one crore young friends joining us from over 28,000 locations. This campaign is for the individual, the family, society and, above all, for the nation,” Prime Minister Modi said.

Healthy Youth Key to a Developed India

Emphasising the importance of physical and mental well-being, the Prime Minister said India’s aspiration of becoming a developed nation by 2047 depends largely on its young population remaining healthy, confident and free from addiction.

“As the nation moves towards the goal of Viksit Bharat, it is essential that our youth remain healthy in body and mind, full of confidence and free from deadly habits like drugs. That is the true objective of this campaign,” he said.

He urged citizens to ensure that every young person understands the harmful consequences of substance abuse and actively chooses a healthy lifestyle.

A People’s Movement Against Drug Abuse

Highlighting the power of collective action, Prime Minister Modi said lasting social change becomes possible only when millions of people unite behind a common cause.

“Some journeys become difficult when undertaken alone, but when crores of people walk together, collective strength creates new energy. This campaign must reach the heart of every young Indian,” he said.

The Prime Minister appealed to young people to become ambassadors of social awareness and inspire others to stay away from drugs.

Campaign to Reach Every Corner of the Country

The nationwide initiative will be led by MY Bharat volunteers with active public participation.

As part of the campaign, participants took a National Pledge Against Drug Abuse, reaffirming their commitment to building a drug-free India.

Every Sunday, awareness activities will be organised across the country, including sports competitions, walkathons, meditation sessions, cultural programmes, street plays, panel discussions, art competitions and community outreach initiatives, encouraging youth participation and public awareness.

Recognition for Outstanding Contributors

To encourage sustained participation, individuals and organisations making exceptional contributions to the campaign will be recognised during the 50th, 75th and 100th weeks of the initiative.

Officials said the campaign aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ and seeks to strengthen public participation in achieving the national goal of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047.’

The government believes that empowering young people to reject substance abuse will not only improve public health but also contribute significantly to India’s social and economic progress.
