Raipur: The festival of Shri Ram Vijayadashami will be celebrated with great pomp in Chhattisgarh on Saturday October 12 . In this series, the historic Dussehra festival being held for the last 54 years in WRS Colony of Raipur will be attended by His Excellency Governor of Chhattisgarh Ramen Deka, Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, MP Brijmohan Agarwal, MLA Rajesh Munat, MLA Motilal Sahu.
Raipur North MLA Purandar Mishra said that the effigy of Ravana in WRS Colony will be 101 feet tall. The effigies of Meghnath and Kumbhakaran will be 85-85 feet tall. Teams have been called from Kolkata for fireworks. Artists from Andhra Pradesh are shaping the effigies of all three.
This is why Dussehra is celebrated: When Lankapati Ravana kidnapped Mata Sita during the 14-year exile, Lord Ram sent Hanumanji to search for Mata Sita. Hanumanji succeeded in locating Mata Sita and he tried to convince Ravana to send Mata Sita to Lord Shri Ram with respect. Ravana did not listen to Hanumanji and invited his own death. The day Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram killed Ravana was the Dashami Tithi of Sharadiya Navratri.
Ram worshipped Maa Durga for 9 days and then on the 10th day he won over Ravana, therefore this festival is celebrated as Vijayadashmi. Shri Ramji’s good deeds won over Ravana’s evil deeds, therefore it is also celebrated as the festival of victory of good over evil. On this day, along with Ravana, effigies of his son Meghnad and his brother Kumbhakaran are also burnt.
