Himanta Biswa Sarma’s name has been officially endorsed at the meeting of the Assam BJP Legislative Party. Known in state politics for his strategic acumen and development-oriented image, Sarma is set to take the helm of the state for a second consecutive term. He will take the oath of office as Chief Minister on May 12. In the election results declared on May 4, the BJP secured a resounding victory, winning 82 out of the state’s 126 assembly seats.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP’s top leadership, and several senior leaders from the NDA are expected to attend this grand swearing-in ceremony. With Himanta Biswa Sarma’s elevation, the BJP will form the government in Assam for the third consecutive time—a development viewed as further strengthening the party’s foothold in the Northeast. Sarma, who managed key portfolios such as Health and Education during the previous tenure, now bears the responsibility of steering the entire state to new heights.
