A disease called Corona virus had spread in China, which caused havoc all over the world. Now once again a virus is spreading in China. The matter of concern is that most of the symptoms of this virus are similar to Corona. Although the name of the virus is human metapneumovirus, people infected with it are showing symptoms like cough-cold and difficulty in breathing.

Cases of human metapneumovirus are increasing continuously. More cases of this virus are coming in children under two years of age. People who already have any respiratory disease are said to be at greater risk. Since this virus is contagious and spreads rapidly from one person to another, the health department of China is on alert and large-scale testing is also going on to prevent the virus. Some media reports have claimed that there is an emergency like situation in China due to this virus. How dangerous is human metapneumovirus? Will there be a risk of this in India too? To know the answer to such questions, we have talked to experts.

What is Human Metapneumovirus?

Epidemic experts say that Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a virus whose symptoms are usually like common cold. However, this virus affects the lungs and sometimes it can be dangerous for patients with diseases like pneumonia, asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Usually cases of this virus are seen in children. In some cases, it is similar to the common childhood illness RSV infection, which causes cough, cold and fever in children.

How to prevent this virus

Wash your hands with soap and water.

Cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze or cough

Avoid being around other people when you or they have a cold or other contagious illness

If you are sick and cannot avoid being around others, visit a mother.
