US President Donald Trump’s top adviser Stephen Miller on Sunday accused India of indirectly funding the Ukraine war by buying oil from Russia. He said that this is “not acceptable” to Trump and India should reconsider its policy. Stephen Miller is the White House Deputy Chief of Staff in the Trump administration, and his statement is one of the major allegations leveled by the US against India.
In an interview to Fox News, Miller said, “Donald Trump has said in very clear words that it is not acceptable for India to finance this war by buying oil from Russia.” According to a Reuters report, Trump’s top adviser said that people would be surprised to know that India is now at par with China in terms of buying oil from Russia. Miller called it a “surprising fact”. Told.
This comment of Miller is being considered the sharpest criticism of India by the Trump administration so far, especially when India is an important partner of America in the Indo-Pacific region. However, Miller balanced his statement by saying that the relationship between Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is “fantastic”.
India will continue to buy oil from Russia
There has been no official response from the Indian government on this issue yet. Reuters report said that the Indian Embassy in Washington has also refused to comment, but the Indian government has indicated that India will continue to buy oil from Russia despite US pressure.
America threatened to impose 100% tariff
Meanwhile, America has imposed a 25% tariff on products imported from India due to buying military equipment and oil from Russia. Apart from this, Trump has warned that if Russia does not make a major peace agreement with Ukraine, then he can consider imposing 100% tariff on American imports from those countries which buy oil from Russia.
