Oman, Iran hold talks on Strait of Hormuz, says Omani State news agency; Israeli intelligence helped U.S. airman rescue mission in Iran, says official
Washington DC: U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday April 5, 2026 that he believes there is a “good chance” of making a deal with Iran on Monday, ahead of his deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face heavy bombing. “I think there is a good chance tomorrow, they are negotiating now,” he told Fox News. This comes after his expletives-laden post threatening to strike Iran’s power plants and bridges.
Meanwhile, the United States has rescued an airman whose F-15 jet was downed in Iran, two U.S. officials told Reuters late on Saturday (April 4, 2026). The officials did not immediately provide further details on the rescue. The airman was the second member of a two-person crew of an F-15 that Iran said on Friday was brought down by its air defences.
In an apparent move to heap further pressure on Tehran following Donald Trump’s latest ultimatum to Iran on opening Strait of Hormuz, a senior Israeli defence official said Israel was preparing to attack Iranian energy facilities, and was awaiting approval from the U.S. The timeframe for such attacks would be within the next week, the official said.
An Iranian official said five people were killed after U.S.-Israeli strikes on Saturday April 4, 2026 targeted a petrochemical hub in the southwest, according to ISNA news agency.
“The United States Military pulled off one of the most daring Search and Rescue Operations in U.S. History, for one of our incredible Crew Member Officers, who also happens to be a highly respected Colonel, and who I am thrilled to let you know is now SAFE and SOUND,” Trump posted on Truth Social- Reuters.
