One of the presentations visible during the programme outlined a four-stage progression — Observe, Decode, Practice and Lead. Participants were encouraged first to identify a quality or behaviour they admire, then understand the principle behind it, examine how that principle can be applied in their own circumstances and ultimately translate it into leadership.

Mentor and Role Model — Understanding the Difference

Another segment of the presentation explored the distinction between a mentor and a role model. While a mentor directly guides, gives feedback, shares experience and challenges an individual’s thinking, a role model influences primarily through example and demonstrated behaviour.

The discussion gave the programme particular relevance for educators, who themselves occupy positions from which their conduct, communication and professional values can influence students.

Rather than treating leadership as something associated only with positions or designations, the session highlighted leadership as a process developed through observation, reflection, practice and the ability to positively influence others.

Faculty members participated in the programme, which also included an interaction with the speaker and a felicitation ceremony. Pomal was honoured following the session, while participants were also presented mementoes during the programme.

The event brought together professional development and the larger educational responsibility of teachers, reinforcing the idea that educators can simultaneously be learners, mentors and role models while preparing students to become confident and responsible future leaders.
