Governor Ramen Deka administers oath of office at Lok Bhavan; Justice Mohapatra takes charge after serving as a senior judge of the Orissa High Court
Raipur: Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra was sworn in as the 16th Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh on Monday, September 7, 2026 marking a new chapter in the leadership of the State’s highest judicial institution.
Governor Ramen Deka administered the oath of office to Justice Mohapatra at a formal ceremony held at Chhattisgarh Mandapam in Lok Bhavan, Raipur.
Following the oath, Governor Deka presented Chief Justice Mohapatra with a copy of the original warrant of appointment issued by the President of India. The Governor congratulated him and extended his best wishes for his tenure as Chief Justice.
Before his appointment as Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court, Justice Mohapatra was serving as a senior judge of the Orissa High Court.
The ceremony brought together senior members of the judiciary, government and public life. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, School Education Minister Gajendra Yadav, Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Tokhan Sahu, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and former Governor Ramesh Bais were among those present.
Rajya Sabha MP Lakshmi Verma and MLAs Sunil Soni and Anuj Sharma also attended the ceremony along with other public representatives.
Chief Justice Mohapatra’s wife, Anita Mohapatra, and judges of the High Court of Chhattisgarh were present as he formally assumed the constitutional office.
Chief Secretary Vikas Sheel conducted the oath-taking ceremony and read out the warrant issued by the President.
Senior officials attending the ceremony included Additional Chief Secretary Subrat Sahu, Principal Secretary of the Home Department Niharika Barik Singh, Director General of Police Arun Dev Gautam, Secretary to the Governor Dr C.R. Prasanna, Advocate General Vivek Sharma, and Chhattisgarh High Court Registrar General Rajneesh Shrivastava. Senior State Government officials and advocates of the High Court were also present.
The assumption of office by Justice Mohapatra places him at the helm of the Chhattisgarh High Court, with responsibility for leading the State’s higher judiciary and its administration.
