Meta says video addressing youth was removed ‘in error’ and has now been restored

New Delhi : The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has reportedly summoned Meta’s Global Head of Public Policy after the company removed a Facebook post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that was addressed to the country’s youth, according to official sources.

The move comes after Meta briefly removed a video posted by the Prime Minister on July 23, during the student protests organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).

In the video, Prime Minister Modi had reached out to young people and assured them that the government would take strict action against examination paper leaks, an issue that has sparked nationwide debate in recent weeks.

According to sources, the IT Ministry has sought an explanation from Meta regarding the removal of the post and has called the company’s global public policy head to discuss the matter.

Responding to the controversy, a Meta spokesperson acknowledged that the removal was unintentional.

“The content was removed in error and has since been restored.”
— Meta Spokesperson

The company did not provide further details on how the error occurred or what led to the temporary removal of the Prime Minister’s post.

The incident has drawn attention to the moderation practices of global social media platforms, particularly when content posted by elected public officials is affected. It has also reignited discussions on platform accountability, transparency and the need for prompt corrective action when moderation errors occur.

The development comes at a time when concerns over examination paper leaks and demands for reforms in the recruitment and examination system continue to dominate public discourse.
