Newspaper headlines will echo in prayer meetings of Schools

IN Short

*Newspaper reading has become a part of students’ daily routine.

*Innovative initiative by Government Primary School, Pipardand

Raipur: Reading newspapers daily is a beneficial habit for students. It provides them with the opportunity to become aware of current events, important issues, and diverse ideas.

This habit enhances their reading and writing abilities through exposure to quality language and well-organized content. To connect education with life, rather than limiting it to bookish knowledge, Government Primary School, Pipardand, in Premnagar development block, Surguja district, has taken a commendable and innovative initiative. Newspaper reading has been incorporated into the daily routine of students at the school. This initiative marks a significant step towards transforming exam-centric education into knowledge-centric education.

The primary objective of this initiative is not only to develop the habit of reading in students, but also to inspire them to think, understand, reason, and ask questions. Assistant teacher Rajendra Jaiswal explained that children’s reading culture is weakening due to increasing mobile screen time these days.

In this context, newspaper reading has emerged as an effective means of improving education. Under the new system, school prayer meetings will no longer be limited to a disciplinary activity, but will instead evolve into a school of awareness. Students will read newspaper headlines daily and become aware of current events in the country and the world.

In addition, once a week, students will be encouraged to write original articles and engage in group discussions on editorial topics. This will develop children’s thinking skills, communication skills, expression abilities, and moral values. This innovative initiative by the school is being widely appreciated in the region. This effort will undoubtedly play a vital role in the students’ overall development.
