Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi: Food safety authorities in Chhattisgarh’s Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district have prohibited the sale and distribution of a specified batch of Fortune Maida and initiated action after a laboratory test declared a paneer sample collected in Gaurela unsafe.

The district Food and Drug Administration has ordered an immediate halt to the sale and distribution of Fortune Maida bearing batch number FAMD50059A, directing food business operators not to stock, sell or distribute products belonging to the identified batch.

Importantly, the restriction communicated by the administration relates to this specific batch. It should therefore not be interpreted as a prohibition on Fortune Maida generally.

The action forms part of an intensified food-safety drive involving inspections of establishments, collection of samples and laboratory examination of food products available in the district.

Paneer Sample Declared Unsafe

In a separate enforcement action, a Food Safety Officer collected a formal sample of paneer from Gaurela and sent it for laboratory analysis.

According to information released by the administration, laboratory examination found the quantity of vegetable fat in the sample to be 77 per cent above the prescribed limit.

On the basis of the laboratory findings, the Food Analyst declared the paneer sample unsafe.

The Food and Drug Administration has subsequently initiated action under the applicable provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act.

The case highlights the importance of laboratory testing in determining whether products being sold as commonly consumed foods meet prescribed composition and safety requirements.

Inspections Expanded Across District

Food-safety authorities are simultaneously widening inspections of shops and other food establishments in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi.

As part of the ongoing exercise, officials collected Maggi and sabudana samples from Grihasthi Super Bazaar.

Samples of different food items were also obtained from 786 Biryani Centre and Hari Confectionery for examination.

These samples have been sent for laboratory testing under the prescribed procedure.

No conclusion about their quality or safety has yet been announced. Authorities said further action, if required, would depend upon the laboratory reports.

That distinction is important: collection of a sample for testing does not by itself establish that a product or establishment has violated food-safety standards.

Food Businesses Told to Follow Standards

The administration has instructed food business operators to comply strictly with requirements governing the manufacture, storage, transportation and sale of food products.

Particular attention is being placed on hygiene and the quality of products reaching consumers.

Officials have indicated that where laboratory examination establishes that food is substandard or unsafe, action will be initiated under the relevant statutory provisions.

Inspections and sample collection are expected to continue as part of the district’s food-safety surveillance.

The state government has linked the enforcement drive to its broader public-health priorities under Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, with officials tasked with ensuring that food products sold to consumers meet prescribed standards.

Consumers Asked to Check Labels and Packaging

Authorities have also urged consumers to exercise greater care while purchasing packaged food.

People have been advised to check the manufacturing date, expiry or best-before date, packaging condition and mandatory information printed on the label before making a purchase.

Consumers should avoid food with damaged packaging, expired shelf life or visible signs that raise concerns over its quality, the administration said.

They have also been encouraged to report suspected food-safety violations to the appropriate authorities.

The latest enforcement action sends a wider message to the food trade in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi: food safety is not limited to inspections alone. Products reaching consumers must withstand laboratory scrutiny and meet the standards prescribed under law.
