New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to people across the country on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, wishing happiness, prosperity and success in their lives.

In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister on Friday August 27, 2026 conveyed his wishes for the auspicious festival and highlighted the enduring bonds of affection and trust that Raksha Bandhan represents.

“Happy Raksha Bandhan. May this auspicious festival bring happiness, prosperity and success to all your lives,” Modi said in his message in Hindi.

He also wished that the bonds of affection, togetherness and mutual trust remain everlasting, reflecting the spirit of a festival traditionally associated with the relationship between brothers and sisters.

Festival celebrating affection and trust

Raksha Bandhan is observed with sisters tying a rakhi on their brothers’ wrists and offering prayers for their well-being and prosperity. Brothers traditionally reciprocate with gifts and a commitment to stand by their sisters.

The festival has also come to symbolise broader values of familial affection, mutual responsibility and trust.

Modi’s message on Friday joined greetings being exchanged across the country as families marked Raksha Bandhan with traditional celebrations.
