Sharply criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent speech in Kuwait, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Sunday December 22, 2024 accused him of inciting hatred between Hindus and minorities in India for political gains. He said that it is easy to take out the hatred, but it is a difficult task to stop it. He said that ‘it is easy to take out the genie of hatred, but it is challenging to put it back in.

Diversification important to increase bilateral trade
PM Modi stressed that diversifying trade apart from oil is important to increase bilateral trade. He said that India and Kuwait have a deep and historical relationship and the relations between the two countries have always been warm and friendly. Modi said that both the countries have been trading with each other since time immemorial.

Indian community a living bridge between the two countries
The PM said that about 90 lakh Indians living in the region (GCC) are contributing positively to its economic growth. The Prime Minister said that the Indian community serves as a living bridge between the two countries. He said that trade and commerce have been important pillars of their bilateral relations. In the interview, he expressed happiness that ‘Made in India’ products are making their way to Kuwait. He said that India is today making world-class products at the most economical cost.

The GCC region accounts for about one-sixth of India’s total trade
PM Modi said that the energy partnership between the two countries is not just a pillar of economic relations, but it is also a driving force for diversified and sustainable growth, paving the way towards a future of shared prosperity. Modi said that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is of utmost importance to India. The GCC is an organization of six Middle Eastern countries, including Kuwait. He said India’s relations with the Gulf countries are based on historical, cultural and trade ties. The GCC region accounts for about one-sixth of India’s total trade and is home to about one-third of the Indian diaspora.

‘Petrochemical’ sector offers another promising opportunity for cooperation’
Kuwait is India’s sixth largest crude oil supplier and fourth largest LPG supplier. PM Modi said there is immense potential for further cooperation as India is emerging as the third largest global energy, oil and LPG consumer. He said Kuwait has about 6.5 per cent of global oil reserves. The ‘petrochemical’ sector offers another promising opportunity for cooperation as India’s fast-growing ‘petrochemical’ industry will be worth US$ 300 billion by 2025.

Attended the opening ceremony of ‘Arabian Gulf Cup’
The Prime Minister on Saturday attended the opening ceremony of the 26th ‘Arabian Gulf Cup’ at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium as the chief guest. The Prime Minister attended the grand opening ceremony along with the Emir of Kuwait, the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the event also provided the Prime Minister an opportunity to hold informal talks with the leadership of Kuwait.
