Ne Delhi : India’s national song, “Vande Mataram,” is more than just a composition — it is a symbol of patriotism, pride, and unity. Written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, the song inspired millions during India’s struggle for freedom and continues to awaken a sense of devotion toward the motherland.

In 2025, India will celebrate 150 years of “Vande Mataram”, marking a historic milestone that honors its timeless legacy and emotional connection to the nation’s identity.

Inaugural Ceremony Details
The Ministry of Culture will organize the inaugural ceremony for the 150 Years of Vande Mataram on 7th November 2025 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.

The event will be graced by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi as the Chief Guest. This grand ceremony will mark the beginning of a year-long nationwide commemoration from 7th November 2025 to 7th November 2026, celebrating the powerful message and musical heritage of “Vande Mataram.”

Historical Background
The song “Vande Mataram” was written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee on 7th November 1875, believed to be on the day of Akshaya Navami.

It first appeared in the Bengali literary journal “Bangadarshan” as part of his famous novel “Anandamath”, and later as a complete book in 1882.

At that time, India was under British rule, and the song gave voice to the country’s awakening spirit of unity, strength, and independence. It personified Mother India as a divine goddess, inspiring countless freedom fighters during the Indian Independence Movement.

On 24th January 1950, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, declared that “Vande Mataram,” which played a vital role in the freedom struggle, should be given equal honor with the National Anthem “Jana Gana Mana.”
