New Delhi/Raipur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 76 on Thursday, September 17 , 2026 with President Droupadi Murmu leading birthday greetings and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai calling on people to mark the occasion through public service, cleanliness, environmental protection and assistance to those in need.
President Murmu, in her message, credited Modi with establishing new benchmarks in governance during his long public career and extended wishes for his health and continued service to the country.
Her message came as Union ministers, chief ministers and other public figures extended greetings to the Prime Minister, whose birthday this year also coincides with programmes marking 25 years since he first assumed office as Gujarat Chief Minister in October 2001.
Murmu Highlights Governance and Public Service
The President referred to Modi’s 25-year journey in public life as head of government and said his efforts had established new benchmarks of good governance. She also referred to India’s development journey and wished him continued strength in serving the nation.
Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan also extended birthday greetings, while several Union ministers and state leaders highlighted different aspects of Modi’s record, including infrastructure, welfare programmes, digitalisation, self-reliance and the government’s Viksit Bharat agenda.
The birthday is also being marked through the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, scheduled from September 17 to October 17, incorporating service activities and public-participation programmes.
CM Sai: Turn the Occasion into a Celebration of Public Participation
In Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has appealed to citizens to participate in the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan and connect the occasion with service to society.
Sai said Modi had devoted 25 years of his public life to the nation and public service and urged people across Chhattisgarh to participate in activities involving cleanliness, environmental conservation and assistance to the needy during the campaign.
The Chief Minister also made a special appeal for Thursday evening.
“At 7 pm on September 17, every family should light an ‘Aashirwad Ka Diya’ in their home and also involve beneficiary families in their neighbourhood in this initiative,” Sai said in his appeal.
He said the lamp should symbolise the people of Chhattisgarh’s wishes for Modi’s good health and long life as well as a collective resolve towards service, public welfare and the goal of a developed India.
Sai described the wider campaign as an opportunity to connect the spirit of service with public participation, arguing that lasting social change becomes possible when citizens themselves become participants in community initiatives.
The appeal has given Modi’s birthday a distinct Chhattisgarh dimension, with the State linking the occasion to the month-long service campaign rather than limiting it to ceremonial celebrations.
