New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday virtually interacted with youth participants of the Sansad Khel Mahotsav, stressing the need to identify and nurture sporting talent across the country to help India shine on the global stage.

Highlighting the growing scale of the event, PM Modi said the Sansad Khel Mahotsav has evolved into a people’s movement, engaging youth from cities and villages alike. He noted that as the Member of Parliament from Kashi, he has been closely associated with the initiative in his constituency.

The Prime Minister pointed out that India is set to host several major sporting events in the coming years, including the Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad in 2030. He added that the country is also aiming to host the Olympics in 2036, which would provide a major platform for young athletes.

Calling on Members of Parliament, PM Modi urged them to take responsibility for identifying and mentoring promising athletes in their constituencies. He said MP Sports Festivals could play a crucial role in bringing such talent to the national and international stage, including the Olympics.

The Prime Minister described the Sansad Khel Mahotsav, held from December 23 to December 25, as more than a competition, calling it a movement to instil discipline, teamwork and leadership among the youth.

Expressing happiness over the achievements of young athletes, PM Modi said the event has helped many participants, including differently-abled athletes, set new milestones this year. He congratulated all athletes and the youth of the country for their efforts.

He further noted that an ecosystem has been created where even children from the poorest families can aspire to reach the highest levels in sports. PM Modi also reminded athletes that they play not just for personal success, but for the honour of the nation and the tricolour, while urging parents to encourage their children to participate in sports for both physical and mental well-being.
