Companies are spending money from CSR funds to promote sports and sportspersons across the country including Chhattisgarh. MP Brijmohan Agrawal had questioned the Ministry of Corporate Affairs in the Lok Sabha whether the companies have included the expenditure on sports activities in Corporate Social Responsibility and had sought information about the expenditure on sports activities from CSR funds in Chhattisgarh. –
On which Minister of State in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra informed that during the last three financial years 2020-21 to 2022-23, money has been spent from CSR funds by all the companies in the areas of training to promote sports in the country. Which includes training to promote rural sports, nationally recognized sports, Paralympic sports and Olympic sports.
In Chhattisgarh, companies have spent Rs 5.72 crore on sports in 2022-23. Out of which Rs 3.87 crore has been spent in Raipur alone. Harsh Malhotra also informed that 24,392 companies in the country have spent about Rs 30 thousand crore in CSR across the country in the year 2022-23.
