Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has praised the decision of caste census in the census. Referring to the caste survey conducted in the Congress-ruled state of Telangana, he said that he is ready to support the government. The government should give a timeline for caste census.

New Delhi: Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has praised the decision of the Central Government to conduct caste census by holding a press conference in New Delhi on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. Rahul Gandhi said that we support the caste census. But the government should tell us by what date the government will conduct the caste census. Along with this, Rahul Gandhi has also demanded to allocate budget for the census.

The central government should declare the timeline as soon as possible

Rahul Gandhi said that we had said in Parliament that we will conduct caste census. We also said that we will abolish the limit of 50 percent, which is an artificial wall. Narendra Modi used to say that there are only four castes (poor, middle class, rich and very rich). But caste data is necessary to know where who stands within these four. Caste census is the first step, but we have to go beyond this as well. Don’t know what happened but suddenly after 11 years the caste census was announced. We fully support it but we want a time limit. We want to know when this will happen. This is the first step.

Rahul Gandhi said Telangana has become a model in caste census and it can become a blueprint. We extend our support to the government in formulating a caste census… There are two examples – Bihar and Telangana and there is a huge difference between the two.

Rahul Gandhi Advised to adopt Telangana model

Referring to the caste survey conducted in Telangana, Rahul said that the Congress state government has formed a team of experts. The bureaucrats did not make its policy by sitting in a closed room. The entire process was completed by going among the public. Rahul Gandhi termed the caste census as the first step towards social justice. He said that this survey will play an important role in understanding social and economic inequalities and making policies.

Government should allocate budget for census – Rahul

Rahul Gandhi demanded the allocation of money for the census from the government and said that budget allocation should be done for this and the date should be announced. Along with this, we want a census of the people, not of the bureaucrats. The outline of the census should not be prepared by sitting in a closed room.

Reservation should be implemented in private educational institutions

Rahul Gandhi said that reservation should be implemented in private institutions just like government institutions. Social justice should not be limited to government jobs only, but equal opportunities should be ensured in the private sector as well.
