In the era of discussion of double engine governments, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has given a new theory. He gave the double engine MP theory in Rae Bareli and said that Rae Bareli is probably the only seat in the country which has two MPs. Whatever the elections in the country, the echo of one word is heard a lot – double engine. In the state elections, the leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raise the slogan of double engine government. In the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections, the Aam Aadmi Party, which was in power in the Union Territory of Delhi at that time, also made double engine the main basis of its campaign.
Now for the first time double engine has been used not for the government, but for the MP. Rahul Gandhi, MP from Rae Bareli seat of Uttar Pradesh and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, has given the two MP theory, after which double engine MP has come into discussion. Rahul Gandhi was in Unchahar of his parliamentary constituency Rae Bareli on Thursday. Rahul Gandhi, who had come to attend a program, said that Rae Bareli is such a seat, perhaps the only constituency in the whole of India which has two MPs. There is me and there is Priyanka. Call her here too. He also said that sometimes invite her too. She calls me to Wayanad and I go. Rahul Gandhi said that she (Priyanka Gandhi) is also an MP from Rae Bareli, so you should call her here too.
He also thanked the people of Rae Bareli and party workers for their support in the Lok Sabha elections. Rahul Gandhi also mentioned the Gandhi family’s association with Rae Bareli and said that whatever problems you have, just tell me what needs to be done and I will get it done… I am always available. He also said that this is not a political relationship, it is a family relationship.
Priyanka Gandhi has also reacted to Rahul Gandhi’s two MP theory. Priyanka Gandhi has shared the video of this statement of Rahul Gandhi on the social media platform X and wrote that Rae Bareli is our family and every order of the family is ours. It is worth noting that Priyanka Gandhi has been active in Rae Bareli for years. Sonia Gandhi was an MP from Rae Bareli seat till the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In every general election, Priyanka Gandhi took the responsibility of Sonia Gandhi’s election campaign by camping in Rae Bareli. After Sonia Gandhi went to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan, there was also talk of Priyanka Gandhi contesting from Rae Bareli seat. However, in the 2024 general election, Congress did not make Priyanka Gandhi a candidate and Rahul Gandhi contested from Rae Bareli as well as Wayanad seat of Kerala and won both the seats. Rahul had left the Wayanad seat and Priyanka Gandhi was elected MP in the by-election.
