Raipur: For the South by-election, the Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded former MP Sunil Soni as its candidate, which has increased the difficulties of the Congress. Now the Congress is in tension as to who should be fielded against Soni. Congress has a long list of contenders, but the most popular names are those of Municipal Corporation Chairman Pramod Dubey, Youth Congress State President Akash Sharma, Kanhaiya Agarwal and political strategist Rajiv Vora .
Pramod Dubey’s claim is considered to be the strongest, who contested the Lok Sabha elections against Sunil Soni in 2019. At the same time, the young and Brahmin face of Akash Sharma can prove beneficial for the Congress. Kanhaiya Agarwal, who gave a tough fight to BJP’s Brijmohan Agarwal in 2018, is also in the race for the ticket while a new face Rajiv Vora from a Party loyal Vora family , can not be ruled out .
Congress will now take the final decision regarding selection of candidates after the workers’ conference, from where the panel will be submitted to the high command.
