Ramen Deka sworn in as Governor

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Lok Sabha Member Ramen Deka was on Wednesday July 31sworn in as the Governor of Chhattisgarh. Chief Justice of High Court of Chhattisgarh Ramesh Sinha administered the oath of office of the Governor to Ramen Deka at Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan Raipur on Wednesday morning. Ramen Deka took the oath as the 10th Governor of Chhattisgarh. First Lady of Chhattisgarh Ranee Deka Kakoti was present on the occasion. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Speaker of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Dr Raman Singh and Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha presented bouquet and greeted the new Governor.

At the ceremony, Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain read out the Warrant of Appointment issued by President Droupadi Murmu to appoint Ramen Deka as the Governor of Chhattisgarh. The swearing-in ceremony began and concluded with the national anthem played by the Ceremonial Police Band. On this occasion, the state anthem was also played. After swearing in, Governor Ramen Deka was given a guard of honour.

Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, Finance Minister O P Choudhary, Forest and Climate Change Department Minister Kedar Kashyap, Commerce and Industries Department and Labour Department Minister Lakhanlal Dewangan, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department Minister Dayaldas Baghel, Public Health and Family Welfare Department Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Revenue, Sports and Youth Welfare Department Minister Tankram Verma, Women and Child Development Department Minister Laxmi Rajwade, Raipur Lok Sabha Member Brijmohan Agrawal, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Director General of Police Ashok Juneja, State Information Commission Commissioners N K Shukla, Alok Chandravanshi, Chairperson of State Commission for Women Dr Kiranmayi Nayak, Additional Chief Secretaries Renu G Pillay, Subrat Sahoo, Manoj Pingua, Secretary to Governor Yashwant Kumar Registrar General of High Court of Chhattisgarh V P Verma, Legal Advisor to Governor Bhishma Pratap Pandey, MLAs, senior officers, vice-chancellors and others were present. Ramen Deka, born on March 1, 1954, in Sualkuchi, Kamrup (R), Assam, is a seasoned politician and founding member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He completed his B.A. in Philosophy and Economics from Pragjyotish College, Guwahati University, Assam. Married to Ranee Deka Kakoti, he has been active in politics since 1977 and served as Assam BJP state president in 2006. Deka was elected MP from Mangaldoi, Assam, for the 15th Lok Sabha in 2009 and re-elected for the 16th Lok Sabha in 2014. He has served on various key committees, including the Standing Committee on Home Affairs, Public Accounts Committee, and India-Bhutan Parliamentary Friendship Group. From August 2021 to July 2024, he was Vice Chairman of the State Innovation and Transformation Aayog, Assam (Cabinet Rank).
