New Delhi : Sergio Gor, a close aide to US President Donald Trump, has arrived in India on a six-day visit. He has been appointed by the Trump administration as the next US Ambassador to India, a position the US Senate has also confirmed. Before officially assuming office, Gor met with PM Modi and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar in New Delhi on Saturday October 11, 2025 .
The United States has appointed Sergio Gor as its next ambassador to India. He has arrived in India and will officially assume office on Monday. Before assuming charge at the US Embassy in New Delhi, Gor met with Prime Minister Modi on Saturday. He stated that President Donald Trump considers Prime Minister Narendra Modi a great and personal friend. Sergio Gor also stated that the United States values its relationship with India.
Sergio Gor’s comments come amid tensions in India-US relations due to the Trump administration’s imposition of a 50 percent tariff on Indian imports. “I had a wonderful meeting with Prime Minister Modi. We discussed bilateral issues, including defense, trade, and technology. We also discussed the importance of critical minerals,” Gor said in an X post. Sergio Gor is on a six-day visit to New Delhi following his confirmation by the US Senate as US Ambassador to India.
Prime Minister Modi also shared details of his meeting with Sergio Gor in a post on X. He said, “I am delighted to welcome Sergio Gor, the US Ambassador-designate to India. I am confident that his tenure will further strengthen the India-US partnership.”…
Jaishankar said on social media, “I was pleased to meet Sergio Gor, the US Ambassador-designate to India, in New Delhi today. I discussed India-US relations and their global significance with him. A day earlier, in a phone conversation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated President Trump on the “success” of the first phase of the US-brokered peace plan for Gaza. The two heads of state also reviewed the progress made in the ongoing trade talks between India and the US. This was the second phone conversation between PM Modi and President Trump in three weeks.
