Sonam Raghuvanshi Case Updates: The killers of Indore’s transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi had planned to kill a woman and burn her body so that it could be passed off as Sonam’s body and it could remain hidden until the truth came out. Police found out that Sonam’s lover Raj Kushwaha was the mastermind of this conspiracy and Sonam had agreed to it.
In the investigation of Meghalaya’s Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, new layers of Sonam Raghuvanshi’s cunning mind are being revealed. Meghalaya police has claimed that Sonam was plotting to murder another woman and pass off her body as her own and disappear forever.
A senior Shillong police official said the killers of Indore-based transport baron Raja Raghuvanshi had planned to kill a woman and burn her body to pass it off as Sonam’s body and hide it until the truth was revealed. The police found that Sonam’s boyfriend Raj Kushwaha was the mastermind of the plot and Sonam had agreed to it.
East Khasi Hills district SP Vivek Syiem said the plot to kill Raja was hatched in Indore ahead of their wedding on May 11. Raja (29) and Sonam (24) went missing in Sohra on May 23. Raja’s body was found in a ditch near Weisadong Falls on June 2, while Sonam surrendered in Ghazipur on June 9.
The police also arrested Raj Kushwaha and three others Vishal, Akash, and Anand, who were Raj’s friends, one of whom was his cousin. The SP said it was not a contract killing. The three helped Raj out of friendship. Raj had given Rs 50,000 for expenses. According to the police, the conspiracy began in Indore in February. The first plan was to pretend that Sonam was drowning in the river, and the second was to kill a woman and burn her body and pass it off as Sonam’s. Both plans failed. The accused first planned the murder in Guwahati, but later Sonam planned to go to Sohra.
After meeting in Nongriat on May 23, 2025 the three killed Raja with a ‘dao’ (sharp weapon) bought from Assam at the Wei Sawdong Falls between 2:00 and 2:18 pm and threw the body into the ditch. Sonam was present at the spot and gave Akash a blood-soaked raincoat, which was later thrown away. Wearing a burqa, Sonam reached Guwahati by taxi, then by bus and train to Siliguri (West Bengal), Patna, Ara, Lucknow and then Indore. A tour guide stated that he saw Sonam-Raja with three men. This is how the police got a clue. Raj asked Sonam to leave Indore and go to Siliguri and stage a kidnapping. But after Akash’s arrest on June 8, Raj panicked and Sonam surrendered in Ghazipur.
The police recovered the raincoat and the scooty. SP Syam said, “We are recording statements, interrogation is going on and we will file a charge sheet in 90 days.”
