Statewide Celebration of ‘Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana today on Friday May 8, 2026

Wedding Melodies to Resound Across Chhattisgarh as Over 2,300 Couples to Tie the Knot

Raipur: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, grand mass marriage ceremonies will be organised across all districts of the state today on Friday May 8, 2026 as part of the ‘Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana’ (Chief Minister’s Daughter Marriage Scheme)—a scheme established as a historic initiative towards fostering social harmony in Chhattisgarh.

All preparations for this statewide event have been completed, and the administrative machinery is currently engaged in finalising the arrangements for the wedding ceremonies.

During these mass marriage ceremonies, more than 2,300 couples belonging to various religions and communities will tie the knot in accordance with their respective customs and traditions.

The participation of couples from Hindu, Muslim, Christian, and Buddhist faiths—including those from particularly vulnerable tribal groups—in this event will serve as a shining example of Chhattisgarh’s rich cultural diversity and social harmony.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stated that this event is not merely a wedding ceremony, but a celebration of equality, dignity, and unity within society.

He noted that, at one time, the marriage of daughters was a source of anxiety for economically weaker families; however, the ‘Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana’ has transformed this anxiety into confidence and dignity. This scheme ensures that sensitive governance reaches the very last person in society.

It is worth mentioning that on February 10, 2026, a total of 6,412 couples entered into wedlock during a state-level mass marriage ceremony held at the Science College Ground in the capital, Raipur, in the presence of Chief Minister Sai.

Of these, the Chief Minister personally blessed 1,316 newlywed couples, while couples from other districts joined the event virtually. This historic event was also recorded in the ‘Golden Book of World Records,’ a matter of great pride for Chhattisgarh.

Under this scheme, each newlywed couple is provided with financial assistance amounting to ₹35,000, offering them a solid foundation for the beginning of their married life.

Additionally, the scheme ensures the provision of necessary materials and other logistical arrangements required for the wedding ceremonies under the guidance of the Minister for Women and Child Development Laxmi Rajwade .

The Department of Women and Child Development has made comprehensive arrangements across all districts regarding venues, food, drinking water, health services, security measures, and other essential amenities, ensuring that every couple and their families experience a dignified and comfortable environment.
