Raipur: The Chhattisgarh Police have taken swift action and arrested four accused in connection with a double murder that occurred on the night of June 16–17, 2026 in Nagoi village, located in the Sonhat development block of Koriya district.

The district administration has clarified that the incident stems from a long-standing dispute involving old personal enmity and a struggle for regional dominance. Currently, the situation across the area is peaceful and fully under control.

Preliminary information from the police reveals that there had been ongoing tension between the victims’ side and the accused’s side for several years regarding disputes and dominance. This long-standing enmity led to a confrontation between the two groups, which escalated into the double murder.

Upon receiving information about the incident, police and administrative officials immediately arrived at the scene and initiated necessary legal proceedings. A case has been registered at the Sonhat police station, and a detailed investigation is underway.

The district administration stated that the police acted promptly to arrest the four individuals involved in the incident. All aspects of the case are being thoroughly investigated, and strict legal action will be taken against the guilty.

According to the administration, additional police forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order following the incident. Senior administrative and police officials are continuously monitoring the situation. Efforts are also being made to maintain peace and harmony by engaging with local public representatives and villagers.

The district administration has stated that the situation in the area is currently fully under control. The public is urged not to believe unverified or misleading information and to cooperate with the administration in maintaining peace and social harmony.

‘Demand for Capital Punishment for the Accused’


A local resident of the deceased’ community condemned this heinous crime. He demanded that the homes of the accused be demolished using bulldozers and that they be executed by hanging.

The community has also demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe and police encounters similar to the model adopted in Uttar Pradesh. Former MLA Gulab Kamro termed the incident condemnable and demanded strict action. MLA Bhaiyalal Rajwade stated that he had spoken to Chief Minister Sai regarding the matter.

Several senior leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also visited the scene of the incident.
