Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified for being 100 grams overweight just before the gold medal match of women’s 50 kg wrestling in the Race Olympics 2024, returned to the country this morning. After coming out of Delhi airport, Vinesh was given a warm welcome by the fans present there. When Vinesh was disqualified just before the gold medal match, the Indian Olympic Association had strongly objected to it.
Phogat had a very up and down Olympics when she was disqualified before the 50kg gold medal match in Paris. She was found to be 100 grams overweight in the official weigh-in on the morning of the bout.
The wrestler then appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CSA) against the decision of the United World Wrestling (UWI) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for a silver medal, but the CAS rejected her plea on Wednesday August 14 . Vinesh Phogat had announced her retirement after the heartbreak in Paris. However, on Friday August 15 night she shared a 3-page letter to her ex, which seems to open the door for a return to wrestling in the future.
A large number of wrestlers have arrived to await the arrival of Vinesh Phogat. Family members are also present. A heavy police force is deployed at the Delhi airport.
