IN Short

  • The Passage of the Freedom of Religion Bill, 2026, Will Put a Stop to Religious Conversions; Strict Action Will Be Taken Against Illegal Conversions
  • Representatives from Various Sections of Society Express Their Gratitude to the Chief Minister

Raipur: March 21, 2026 — Representatives from various sections of society, led by MLA Purandar Mishra, paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai at the Chief Minister’s Residence Office in the state capital, Raipur.

They honored the Chief Minister and expressed their gratitude for the passage of the Freedom of Religion, Chhattisgarh Staff Selection Board, and Chhattisgarh (Prevention of Unfair Means in Public Recruitment and Professional Examinations) Bills, 2026, during the Budget Session.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stated that the passage of the Freedom of Religion Bill, 2026; the Chhattisgarh Staff Selection Board Bill, 2026; and the Chhattisgarh (Prevention of Unfair Means in Public Recruitment and Professional Examinations) Bill, 2026, in the Legislative Assembly will prove to be a boon for all the people of the state.

Among these, the Freedom of Religion Bill represents a clear resolve to safeguard our great traditions and values. Similarly, the other two bills will prove crucial in ensuring transparency in the recruitment process.

Chief Minister Sai noted that followers of Sanatan Dharma in the state had long been demanding the enactment of strict laws against religious conversions. In fulfillment of this demand, we have passed the Freedom of Religion Bill, 2026, in Chhattisgarh.

He added that while a law regarding this matter had existed previously, it was not sufficiently effective; consequently, individuals involved in orchestrating illegal conversions often managed to evade justice. Furthermore, due to religious conversions, the social fabric in certain regions of the state was being disrupted, thereby tarnishing the state’s image. Through this bill, a firm check will be placed on illegal conversions.

Chief Minister Sai remarked that by passing the Freedom of Religion Bill, we have paid tribute to the late Shri Judev Ji—a former Rajya Sabha MP and Union Minister—who had launched a vigorous campaign against religious conversions and spearheaded the “Ghar Wapasi” (Homecoming) movement.
