Parliament Budget Session Live Updates News in English : The Waqf Amendment Bill to ensure accountability and transparency in Waqf boards across the country was passed in the Lok Sabha today. The bill was discussed for 11 hours. This bill will now be introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday April 3,2025 .

The Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025 was passed in Lok Sabha at 1.56 am. 288 votes were cast in favour of the bill, while 232 votes were cast against it.

If the bill was unconstitutional, the court would have cancelled it: Rijiju
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said, I thank all the leaders for giving their opinion on the bill. Some leaders are saying that this bill is unconstitutional, I want to ask them how can they say this? If it was unconstitutional, the court would have cancelled it. Words like unconstitutional should not be used. This bill is not against the Constitution, as the opposition is claiming. We should not use the words constitutional and unconstitutional lightly.
After this, he targeted AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and said, Asaduddin Owaisi raised many issues and alleged that provisions are being made in Waqf for Muslims and children of Muslims, but why not for Hindus? I want to tell them that there is already a provision for Hindus, there is no need to make a new law for this.

While speaking during the discussion on the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025, Lok Sabha MP and JPC chairman on Waqf Bill Jagdambika Pal said that he was happy to be made the head of the JPC and thanked the party. Jagdambika Pal said – They have formed the Sachar Committee, they did not worry about the recommendations of the Sachar Committee. We are implementing the recommendations of the Sachar Committee. During this, Jagdambika Pal criticized AIMIM chief Owaisi for tearing the Waqf Amendment Bill. He said that Owaisi called the bill unconstitutional, but tearing the bill is an unconstitutional act. He also claimed that the government has accepted all the suggestions given by the JPC.
