Jaspur: The spirit of Raksha Bandhan took on a public dimension at Pandripani village in Jashpur district on Wednesday, August 26, as women from the region tied rakhis to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and interacted with him during a programme centred on women’s welfare, security and economic empowerment.
Sai, in turn, presented gifts to the women and said Raksha Bandhan represented not merely the affection between a brother and sister but also a responsibility towards women’s dignity, security and future.
“The respect and empowerment of women form the strong foundation of a prosperous Chhattisgarh. When women become economically and socially empowered, the benefits reach the entire family, and prosperous families pave the way for the progress of society and the state,” Sai said.
The Chief Minister said his government wanted every woman in Chhattisgarh to become self-reliant, have opportunities to progress and play a stronger role in decisions concerning her family and society.

During the programme, Sai inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development works worth approximately ₹64 lakh at Pandripani, including a Mahtari Sadan designed to provide women and self-help groups with space for meetings, training and livelihood activities.
He also announced the construction of Mahtari Sadans at Farsabahar and Bhelwa and said ₹3.23 crore had been sanctioned for construction of a road connecting the main road with Dani Moda settlement.
“Our objective is not confined to providing financial assistance. We want women to become economically self-reliant, connect their skills with opportunities and strengthen their role in the development of their families and society,” Sai said.
From financial assistance to self-reliance
Referring to the Mahtari Vandan Yojana, Sai said the monthly financial support was giving women greater economic confidence and helping them meet their personal and household requirements independently.
He said more than 67 lakh women had recently received over ₹631 crore under the scheme, with the September instalment released in advance ahead of Raksha Bandhan.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the growing role of women’s self-help groups in the rural economy.
“Self-help groups are becoming an effective instrument of women’s self-reliance while strengthening the rural economy. Financial support will enable these groups to expand their livelihood activities and create new income opportunities locally,” Sai said.
During the programme, Mongra Self-Help Group of Bhagora, Vaishnavi Self-Help Group of Kandaibahar and Chand Self-Help Group of Kandaibahar were provided assistance of ₹1.50 lakh each, while Pratigya Group of Bada Basti received ₹1 lakh.

Sai also spoke about making government services easier and more transparent. He said more than 700 services of 36 departments were available online through Seva Setu, while Atal Digital Seva Kendras were being established to improve financial inclusion in rural areas. The Chief Minister Helpline 1076, he said, was intended to accelerate the resolution of public grievances.
“Good governance means ensuring that government services reach people simply and transparently and that their problems are resolved within a reasonable time. Technology is being used increasingly so that the benefits of government schemes reach the last person,” Sai said.
Passbooks under the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana were presented to girls Meenakshi Yadav and Shreya Painkra, while five beneficiaries were given property-right documents under the SVAMITVA scheme.
Pathalgaon MLA Gomti Sai said the government’s initiatives had placed women’s dignity and economic independence among its priorities. Referring to the Mahtari Vandan Yojana and Mahtari Sadans, she said the initiatives were giving women both financial support and dedicated spaces for collective activities.
She described Chief Minister Sai as the “Vishnu Bhaiya” of sisters across Chhattisgarh, saying his government was working continuously for women’s dignity, security, self-reliance and welfare.
Collector Rohit Vyas, SSP Dr Lal Umed Singh, District Panchayat CEO Abhishek Kumar, other public representatives and officials, and a large number of women attended the programme.
