Chhattisgarh High Court rejects petition of foreign students

Bilaspur. Foreign students filed a petition in the High Court objecting to the change in admission rules of the Central Government in IIT and NIT. This petition was filed by more than 8 students living in Saudi Arabia. After hearing the case, the division bench of the High Court rejected the petition. The High Court said that making policy and setting criteria for admission is the subject and right of the Central Government. Giving relaxation in this is a policy decision of the government. Claim for relaxation cannot be made.

In fact, students living in Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Munir, Suhas Kamma, Shriyansh Kumar, Aafia Anees, Ranjit, Raghav Saxena and others had filed a petition in the Chhattisgarh High Court through their advocate. In which the foreign students had said that they are eligible for admission in NIT, IIT and other institutions under the DASA scheme. The Central Education Ministry has changed the criteria set for educational qualification, due to which they are not able to get admission.

The petitioners said that 60 percent marks were previously fixed for admission in graduate courses for the year 2024-25. The notification was issued on 30 January 2024. Under this, the marks prescribed for admission under the DASA scheme have been changed, and it has been increased to 75 percent. Also, it has been included in the mandatory condition. The Union Ministry of Education has implemented the DASA scheme in the year 2001-02 for admission of foreign nationals, people of Indian origin living abroad, NRIs and NRIs in 66 major technical education institutes of the country.
