UP Govt’s New Social Media Policy: Life Term For Anti-National Posts, Mega Offer For Influencers

UP Cabinet gave nod to the Uttar Pradesh Digital Media Policy, 2024 which encourages post sharing government’s schemes and imposes fine on anti-national posts.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police has issued a new social media policy with stringent punishments for people posting against the country. As per the new policy, people making anti-national posts might have to face life imprisonment. The UP Cabinet gave nod to the Uttar Pradesh Digital Media Policy, 2024 which encourages post sharing government’s schemes.

Punishment for objectionable posts ranges from three years to life imprisonment. Policy also has a provision for initiating legal action against agencies/firms if they upload any “objectionable content”. Content “should not be indecent, obscene or anti-national,”

As per the new policy, based on the followers and subscribers count, influencers can get up to Rs 8 lakh every month for promoting the government’s work.

Uttar Pradesh government’s new social media policy causes storm

The decision was taken in a meeting on Tuesday August 27 . After the cabinet meeting, Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjay Nishad had said yesterday, “Today, policy is being made for social media, Instagram… Now they will be regulated and they will also be given advertisements. A lot of policies have been made…”

Mega Offer For Influencers

As per the new policy, sharing of government scheme, achievement based content will be encouraged by giving advertisements on different social media platforms.

Influencers can earn Rs 2 lakh to Rs 8 lakh rupees per month on social media depending on their followers and views. Twitter, Instagram, Shorts, Podcast, Facebook and YouTube are included in this. It will depend on how many followers and views the influencer gets.

The policy will be implemented as soon as the rules are made.
