PM Modi Argentina Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached the South American country Argentina in the third phase of his foreign tour. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had visited Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago. PM Modi will also meet the President and many football players in Argentina .
President of Argentina expressed friendship by hugging PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given a warm welcome in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. President of Argentina Javier Mailey himself welcomed PM Modi warmly by hugging him. This meeting of the two leaders is considered important in the direction of strengthening mutual cooperation and friendship. Trade, investment and global issues are expected to be discussed in the talks between President Mailey and PM Modi.
Congress recalls Indira Gandhi’s 1968 Argentina visit
Amid Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Argentina visit, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Saturday July 5, 2025 (IST) recalled former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s visit to Buenos Aires in 1968. Ramesh also recalled that Argentine economist Raul Prebisch, who was very influential in the 1950s and 1960s, helped set up the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). He said the Global South, a term now used by Prime Minister Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, was popularised by UNCTAD, though it was first used by British banker Oliver Franks in 1960. He said Rabindranath Tagore spent time in Argentina in November 1924 at the invitation of Victoria Ocampo, a prominent literary figure.

Both countries celebrated 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2024. Yoga, Ayurveda and Indian philosophy are quite popular in Argentina.

During bilateral talks with President Miley, PM Modi will discuss issues ranging from defense, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade and investment. Apart from all these , many key areas including relations between the people of the two countries are also likely to be discussed.
