There is an atmosphere of anger across the country over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. The political uproar over this matter is also at its peak.
Kolkata: Today, a special session of the Assembly has been called in West Bengal. It is believed that in this special session, a law will be made to give death penalty to the culprits in rape and murder cases. There was a continuous demand from many organisations to make laws with the harshest punishment for rape and murder cases.
The government has also got the support of the state’s main opposition party BJP regarding this law. This special session is for two days. The anti-rape law will be made in these two days. It is expected that during this special session, representatives of all parties in the Assembly will put forward their views strongly.
However Subhendu Adhikari indicated that the opposition BJP is fully prepared to corner the Mamata government on the RG tax incident. Earlier, state BJP president and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar had said on Saturday August 31 that his party MLAs would support this bill. However, he alleged that this bill is just a drama to divert attention from the RG tax incident. He said that the BJP MLAs will expose the drama and intentions of the state government in the House.
