Umar Khalid, an accused in the Delhi riots case, has been granted interim bail by a trial court. The court granted him this relief to attend his sister’s wedding. The court has imposed several conditions while granting bail to Khalid.

New Delhi : A Delhi trial court has granted 14-day interim bail to Umar Khalid, an accused in the alleged ‘larger conspiracy’ case of the 2020 North-East Delhi riots, to attend his sister’s wedding. The court has also imposed certain conditions while granting bail to Khalid. Khalid has been granted interim bail from December 16 to December 29.

Jailed Umar Khalid had filed a petition in the Karkardooma Court seeking interim bail to attend his sister’s wedding later this month. In his petition, Khalid appealed for interim bail from December 14 to December 29, stating that his sister’s wedding is scheduled for December 27 and his presence is necessary for family functions and preparations.

Must surrender on December 29

The court has also imposed some conditions while granting bail to Khalid. The court said that Umar Khalid will have to surrender before the concerned jail superintendent on the evening of December 29, 2025, who will then file a report in this court. He will not be allowed to leave Delhi-NCR during the bail period.

Mobile number must be shared

The court said that during the bail period, Khalid will have to provide his mobile number and location to the investigating officer and keep it active throughout the interim bail period.
Allowed to meet only these people

The court also said that during the interim bail period, the applicant will meet his family members, relatives, and friends. Besides this, he will stay at his home or at the places where the wedding ceremonies will be held. It is worth noting that Umar Khalid has been in jail since September 2020 in connection with the alleged “larger conspiracy” case related to the Delhi riots of February 2020. He is being prosecuted under various sections of the UAPA (Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act) as well as serious sections of the Indian Penal Code. He has not yet been granted regular bail in this case.
