Bilaspur: In Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, a fraudster posing as a CBI officer extorted Rs 16.5 lakh from an insurance company surveyor. The alleged officer deceived him that his name had appeared in money laundering and human trafficking. Now there would be a CBI inquiry against him. If he wanted to avoid this, he would have to pay money. To escape the fear of threats from the fake CBI officer, the surveyor transferred the money to the account mentioned. After this, he complained about the fraud to the police, on which the police have registered a case of cheating. The matter is from Torwa police station area.
Neeraj Kumar Singh (55), a resident of Vivekanand Nagar, is a surveyor in an insurance company. Last Friday September 13 , he received a call from an unknown number on his mobile. The caller claimed to be investigating his accounts and other confidential information. The caller also gave some of his personal details. He said that he had all the information about how he had earned illegal money. The surveyor got scared after listening to his words. After threatening Neeraj, the thug said that if he wanted to avoid a CBI investigation, then he would have to fulfill his demands. Neeraj fell into his trap. He agreed to fulfill his demands. Then the alleged officer told him the account number. He asked him to transfer Rs. 20 lakh, on which he transferred Rs. 16.5 lakh to the bank account. He asked for time for the remaining money.
After giving money to the fraudsters, he informed his wife Poonam Singh and family about the incident. After talking to them, Neeraj realised that he had been cheated, after which he reached Torwa police station. Then he informed the police about the entire incident. On his complaint, the police have registered a case of fraud and started investigating the matter. During this, the alleged CBI officer threatened immediate arrest if he told anyone about this, due to which surveyor Neeraj got scared in the name of CBI investigation. Fearing investigation and arrest, he transferred the money without telling anyone.
