The differences between two senior MPs of the party, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Kalyan Banerjee, became public. Trinamool MP Sougata Roy faced protests, and eggs were hurled at his car

Three weeks after suffering an electoral defeat in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress continues to battle on multiple fronts, which include internal bickering, resignation and mounting public anger against local level functionaries of the party.

On Thursday May 28, 2026, the differences between two senior MPs of the party, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Kalyan Banerjee, became public with Dr. Ghosh Dastidar writing to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla seeking action against fellow party MP.

The female MP alleged that Banerjee had verbally abused her inside the Parliament. The Trinamool Congress Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha held a press conference where he questioned the timing of her complaint, highlighting that if any such incident occurred in Parliament, it should have been reported immediately to the Speaker rather than raised with a delay.

Just at a time two senior MPs were involved in a verbal duel, senior Trinamool Congress MP Sougata Roy faced protests outside a police station in North 24 Parganas district on Thursday May 28, 2026.

The 78-year-old Dum Dum MP had visited the Nimta police station to submit a deputation alleging attacks on his party councillors in several areas of Nimta and North Dum Dum. When he was coming out of the police station, a crowd gathered and shouted slogans of ‘Chor Chor ( Thief Thief)”. Eggs were also hurled at the MP’s vehicle. Roy said that BJP workers were behind the mischief.

Meanwhile, in another development, more than ₹2.24 crore was seized by the West Bengal police hidden in a jute field at Baduria in North 24 Parganas allegedly by Baduria municipality chairperson Dipankar Bhattacharya, who was arrested a few days ago.

In several parts of the State, including at Barrackpore, a local with criminal antecedents was paraded by the police, and the public was seen jeering at him. Over the past few weeks, several local leaders of Trinamool Congress have not only faced arrests but have also been assaulted by the locals who accused them of corruption and extortion.

Continuing with the series of resignations, former Rajya Sabha MP and Trinamool Congress leader Santanu Sen resigned as the party’s national spokesperson and criticised the party for developments surrounding the RG Kar rape and murder case and described the poll defeat as a public rejection of “unethical practices”.

Amidst these developments, Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee shared a cryptic poem titled ‘Chameleon’ on social media. Trinamool MLA Kunal Ghosh urged party leaders not to discuss flaws of the party in public.

“In this difficult time for the party and Bengal, turning Trinamool around under Mamata di’s leadership is essential. I believe many workers are ready. People are there too. But the leaders—some are invisible; some are revolutionaries; only a few are visible. This cannot be. Let the effort to solve problems come from within the party,” . Ghosh said.
