State issues detailed guidelines for August 15 celebrations; ceremonies to begin at 9 am, with patriotic programmes planned from state headquarters to village panchayats

Raipur: Chhattisgarh is preparing for Independence Day celebrations across the state on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with the government directing administrations and institutions to ensure that the occasion is observed with dignity, discipline and a strong spirit of patriotism.
The General Administration Department has issued detailed guidelines covering celebrations from the state and district headquarters to Janpad Panchayats, educational institutions and villages.
The main state-level ceremony will be held at the Police Parade Ground in Raipur, where Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai will hoist the National Flag at 9 am, take the salute at the ceremonial parade and deliver his Independence Day message to the people of Chhattisgarh.
Tricolour balloons will also be released at the venue as part of the celebrations.
Flag Hoisting Across District Headquarters
At district headquarters, guests designated by the state government will hoist the National Flag and take the salute at ceremonial parades.
The government has issued a separate list identifying the dignitaries assigned to the respective districts.
The ceremonies will also include the collective singing of the national song, Vande Mataram.
Celebrations to Reach Villages
The government has sought to ensure that Independence Day is observed beyond major cities and district headquarters, with programmes extending to Janpad Panchayat, tehsil and village levels.
At Janpad Panchayat headquarters, the Janpad Panchayat president will hoist the National Flag.
In municipalities and Nagar Panchayats whose headquarters are located outside the respective development block headquarters, the chairperson of the civic body will perform the flag-hoisting ceremony.
At Panchayat headquarters and larger villages, Sarpanches and village heads will hoist the Tricolour, followed by collective singing of the National Anthem and Vande Mataram with local residents.
Schools to Combine Patriotism with Creativity
Educational institutions will have a significant role in the celebrations.
Schools have been directed to organise flag-hoisting ceremonies along with cultural, literary, recreational and sporting activities. Creative initiatives such as tree plantation have also been encouraged.
Schools will organise morning Prabhat Pheris, while universities, colleges and other educational institutions across Chhattisgarh will hold their own flag-hoisting programmes.
Permission for the use of loudspeakers during Independence Day functions will be granted by the respective District Collectors.
Government and Historic Buildings to Be Illuminated
Government and public buildings as well as monuments of national importance across Chhattisgarh will be illuminated on the eve of Independence Day and on the night of August 15.
Heads of government departments and offices have also been instructed to assemble officers and employees at their respective workplaces and organise flag-hoisting ceremonies.
At both the state and district levels, the principal ceremonies will commence at 9 am.
Freedom Fighters, Martyrs’ Families to Be Honoured
The guidelines also place emphasis on recognising those whose lives and sacrifices are connected with the country’s freedom and security.
District Collectors have been instructed to respectfully invite freedom fighters and families of security personnel martyred in Maoist violence to the district-level Independence Day functions.
The statewide programme is intended to combine the ceremonial significance of Independence Day with wider public participation, ensuring that the Tricolour and the spirit of national unity are visible from the capital to the state’s villages.
