Raipur: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has ordered here on Thursday, September 10, 2026 immediate safety inspections and audits of hostels, paying guest accommodations, coaching centres, schools and large educational buildings across Chhattisgarh, directing the administration to identify risks before they result in accidents.
Chairing a high-level review meeting through video conference from his residence office in Raipur on Thursday, Sai told divisional commissioners, district collectors, inspectors general of police and superintendents of police that the safety of students and citizens must remain a top administrative priority.
“Administrative responsibility does not end with action after an incident. Potential risks must be identified and addressed beforehand,” the Chief Minister said.
Unsafe Buildings to Face Immediate Action
Sai directed district administrations to assess the structural condition of old and dilapidated buildings, particularly schools, libraries, hostels and other places used by large numbers of people.
Buildings found unsafe or potentially dangerous to students and the public must be identified and necessary action initiated without delay. Officials have also been asked to fix specific deadlines for correcting deficiencies detected during inspections.
Collectors and SPs will be required to personally monitor implementation in their respective districts, with the Chief Minister emphasising that safety enforcement should not begin only after a complaint or accident.
The administration, he said, must establish a system of regular monitoring, preventive inspection and time-bound corrective action, particularly at institutions used by children and students.
Crackdown on Illegal and Adulterated Liquor
The review also covered illegal liquor. Sai directed the police, Excise Department and district administrations to launch a coordinated state-wide drive against the manufacture, adulteration, storage, sale and transportation of illicit liquor.
Joint teams have been instructed to conduct raids wherever there is credible information or suspicion of illegal liquor activity. Police and excise officials have also been asked to strengthen intelligence-sharing and coordinate enforcement operations.
Surveillance is to be intensified in border areas and along transportation routes to prevent illegal liquor from entering Chhattisgarh from neighbouring states.
“Officials found negligent or indifferent in implementing government directions will be held accountable and strict action will follow,” Sai warned.
Collectors and SPs have been instructed to begin implementing the directions immediately and regularly review progress at the district level.
Chief Secretary Vikas Sheel, Additional Chief Secretary, Panchayat and Rural Development, Richa Sharma; Additional Chief Secretary, Forest, Manoj Kumar Pingua; Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Subodh Kumar Singh; Special Secretary to the Chief Minister Rajat Bansal; Joint Secretary Prabhat Malik and other senior officials attended the meeting.
