Raipur: In a major relief for students who could not secure admission to colleges in Chhattisgarh within the earlier deadline, the State Government has extended the admission process for the 2026–27 academic session until September 19, 2026.
The decision follows an initiative by Higher Education Minister Tank Ram Verma, after requests were received from students seeking another opportunity for admission. Vacant seats in higher educational institutions across the State can now be filled until the revised deadline.
The Higher Education Department has issued an official order from Mahanadi Bhawan at Nava Raipur Atal Nagar giving effect to the extension. The previous deadline for college admissions had been fixed as August 31, 2026.
The government decided to provide additional time after considering applications from students who had remained outside the admission process as well as the availability of vacant seats in colleges.
Verma said the decision had been taken keeping the interests of students at the forefront and to ensure that those willing to continue their higher education do not lose an entire academic year merely because they could not complete the admission process earlier.
“The State Government is fully committed to the bright future of the youth and students of Chhattisgarh. The admission deadline has been extended with the objective that no deserving or willing student should lose an academic year,” Verma said.
The Higher Education Minister said the extension would provide another opportunity to students who, for various reasons, had been unable to obtain admission before the August 31 deadline.
He also appealed to eligible students not to wait until the last moment and to complete the necessary formalities at the earliest.
“Students who have not yet taken admission should complete the admission process without delay and make use of this opportunity,” Verma said.
The Directorate of Higher Education has been directed to ensure that admissions against available vacant seats are completed transparently in the concerned institutions by September 19.
The extension assumes significance for students who were unable to finalise their choice of institution or course during the earlier admission period. It will also enable colleges with seats still available after the regular admission rounds to accommodate eligible applicants.
With the revised deadline, students now have an additional window to enter higher education during the current academic session instead of having to wait for the next admission cycle.
