Raipur: A drug-free society is essential to building a healthy and responsible generation capable of contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, Chhattisgarh Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Tank Ram Verma said while addressing a district-level programme in Dhamtari.

The programme, organised at Mono Night English Medium School as part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan and International Day of Older Persons activities, brought together public representatives, officials, senior citizens, students, volunteers and members of the community.

Verma administered a collective de-addiction pledge and called upon young people to take the lead in spreading awareness against substance abuse.

“Addiction does not affect an individual alone; its consequences reach families, society and future generations. Eliminating it requires collective public participation,” Verma said.

He urged students, young people and voluntary organisations to participate actively in the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and carry the message of a drug-free society to villages and communities.

De-addiction as a Collective Responsibility

Participants pledged not only to remain free from substance abuse themselves but also to encourage family members, friends and others in their communities to stay away from intoxicants.

The programme emphasised that combating addiction cannot remain confined to a government campaign and requires sustained participation from citizens and social organisations.

Street Play Connects Youth Power With Viksit Bharat 2047

A street play presented by volunteers of the National Service Scheme (NSS) and Indian Red Cross Society from Government Higher Secondary School, Khartuli, emerged as a major attraction of the programme.

Prepared under the guidance of the school principal and written and directed by lecturer Akash Giri Goswami, the performance addressed drug prevention, social service and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Through the presentation, the volunteers conveyed that directing the energy of young people towards education, skills and national service instead of substance abuse could contribute meaningfully to India’s development.

Representatives of local bodies and cooperative institutions, senior administrative officials and other dignitaries were also present at the programme.
