Barabanki: A case similar to SDM Jyoti Maurya has also come up from Barabanki district. Here a young man made her wife educated by selling his farm and working as a labourer. When the wife became a Lekhpal ( Accountant) after completing her education, she filed a divorce petition in the court to leave her husband. The court has dismissed the divorce case considering it baseless.
The case is of Galahamau village of Satrikh police station area. Amrish Kumar, a resident of this village, was married to Deepika Bhargava, daughter of Ramcharan, a resident of Yakutganj village of Zaidpur police station area, on 20 February 2009. According to husband Amrish, his intermediate pass wife Deepika wanted to study after marriage. Due to this, Deepika completed her graduation while living in her in-laws’ house. Husband Amrish Kumar said that seeing his wife Deepika’s interest in studies, he got her MA and B.Ed done.
He enrolled Deepika in coaching to prepare for competitive exams. He took care of his wife’s family responsibilities along with bringing and taking her to coaching. Meanwhile, in 2011 (Amrish’s mother) died. He used to run the household expenses by doing hard labour despite financial difficulties. Amrish told that when money started falling short for his wife’s education, he sold 10 biswa (1.25 bigha) of land in 2014. In 2018, his wife Deepika got selected for the post of Lekhpal.
Deepika, the Lekhpal, has accused her husband of harassment. According to her, Amrish and his family used to torture her a lot. Deepika used to run the household expenses by teaching in a private school along with doing household work. But the family members were not satisfied with this either. Deepika alleges that she was constantly harassed. Deepika told that fed up of this, she went to her maternal home and studied there and became a Lekhpal.
