Later SP took action against the inspector and the police station in-charge
Barabanki: A shameful act of the Barabanki police of Uttar Pradesh has come to light. Where a rape victim was made to sit in the police station for 10 hours. Obscene talks were made to her and she was pressurised to compromise. Not only this, 50 thousand rupees were sent online to the victim’s maternal uncle. In this case which happened just 20 kilometers away from Lucknow, the senior police officials did not take any strict action nor did they pay attention to the complaint. When the case went viral on the social media, the SP of Barabanki put the police station in-charge Arun Pratap Singh on line duty and suspended SI Manoj Kumar.
A village resident of Masauli area said SP in a complaint that on September 2018, his sister committed suicide the day after his brother-in-law was killed. He takes care of his 16-year-old niece. On August 22 , the niece was going to the field. Then Ankit Verma of the village dragged her in the car and raped her after keeping her hostage in a hotel in the city. On 23 August, when the girl’s condition worsened, he took her to Lucknow, Kanpur and Ghaziabad on the pretext of treatment. Then on August 25 Ankit left the girl outside the village and escaped.
On August 25 itself the victim reached the police station with her case. The accused was also called at the police station. Seeing the insensitivity of the police, the uncle complained to the SP on August 27. After this, a case of rape was registered against Ankit on August 30. On August 31, the victim’s uncle wrote in a complaint to the CM through the Jansunwai portal that the police ignored the orders of the SP. Not only this, the case was registered arbitrarily. The minor victim has been forcibly detained in the police station since August 30 without the presence of any family member. In the police station, six friends of the accused misbehaved and a complaint was also made about forcibly getting the settlement agreement signed.
